Terms of Use

The rules for using The Gaming Inbox, creating an account, and participating in the community.

Last updated: October 9, 2026

1. Who operates the service and acceptance

The Gaming Inbox is operated by Kristian van Doran, operating The Gaming Inbox. These Terms govern your access to thegaminginbox.com and related The Gaming Inbox services (the “Service”). By creating an account, accessing an approved beta account, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and the documents linked from the Legal Centre. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Service is currently offered as a closed beta. Features may be incomplete, change, or be unavailable while testing is underway.

2. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 14 years old. If you have not reached the age of majority where you live, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian where required.
  • You must provide accurate account information and keep your sign-in credentials and email account secure.
  • You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless you promptly tell us that it has been compromised.
  • One person may not impersonate another person, evade a ban, sell an account, or use automated means to create or operate accounts without written permission.
  • Beta access is discretionary. An invitation or approval is personal and may be withdrawn.

3. What the Service provides

The Service helps members discover games, record ratings and reviews, maintain a library, create tier lists and Top 3 selections, follow members, react to activity, receive reminders or alerts, and share selected activity outside the Service.

Recommendations, taste matches, ratings, deal information, release information, and rankings are informational. They are not guarantees of quality, compatibility, availability, price, or suitability.

The beta is currently free. If paid features are introduced, the price, renewal terms, taxes, cancellation terms, and any additional conditions will be shown before purchase.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of content you submit, including reviews, profile text, custom profile images, tier-list titles, and other posts (“User Content”).

You grant The Gaming Inbox a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, format, moderate, display, and distribute your User Content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, improve, and promote the Service. This includes generating share cards or previews when you choose to share content. The licence ends when the content is deleted, except for reasonable backup retention, content already shared by others, and legal or security obligations.

You confirm that you have the rights needed to submit your User Content and that it does not violate law, another person’s rights, or the Community Guidelines.

5. Community conduct and moderation

You must follow the Community Guidelines. We may use automated screening to flag suspicious content, but moderation decisions may be reviewed by the site owner. We may label spoilers, reduce visibility, remove content, restrict features, suspend accounts, ban members, preserve evidence, or report conduct when reasonably necessary to protect the Service or its members.

Moderation is based on context and may not be immediate or error-free. You may ask for a review of a moderation decision by contacting the legal address below.

6. Game data, artwork, trailers, and third-party services

Games metadata is powered by IGDB.com. Game names, artwork, videos, trademarks, and other materials may belong to their respective publishers, developers, platforms, or licensors. Their appearance does not mean that those parties endorse The Gaming Inbox.

The Service may link to Twitch, IGDB, YouTube, game stores, deal providers, and other third parties. Their services have separate terms and privacy practices. The Gaming Inbox is not a seller, reseller, or party to purchases made through an external retailer. Verify the seller, price, region, platform, refund terms, and product details before leaving the Service or buying anything.

7. Advertising and messages

The Service may display clearly identified advertising or sponsorships. Advertising will not imply endorsement, and private account information will not be sold. Personalized advertising technologies will not be activated without the notice and choices required by applicable law.

Service messages—such as sign-in codes, security notices, moderation notices, requested alerts, and account updates—may be sent as needed to provide the Service. Marketing messages, if introduced, will use the consent and unsubscribe controls required by Canadian anti-spam law.

8. The Gaming Inbox intellectual property

The Service, its original code, design, branding, logo, and original content are owned by or licensed to The Gaming Inbox. Except as allowed by law or expressly authorized, you may not copy, scrape, sell, reverse engineer, or reuse them to create a competing database or service.

You may share links and the share images the Service creates for you. This permission does not transfer rights in third-party game artwork contained in those images.

9. Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains what personal information is collected, why it is used, where it may be processed, and the choices and rights available to you. The Cookie & Advertising Notice explains local storage, cookies, embeds, and future advertising technologies.

10. Changes, suspension, and ending an account

You may stop using the Service at any time. Available account-reset tools remove the live profile and associated social content described in the Privacy Policy; you may contact us for a broader deletion request.

We may change, suspend, or discontinue part of the beta, and may restrict an account that violates these Terms or creates risk. Where reasonable, we will give notice and an opportunity to correct or appeal the issue. Sections that by their nature should survive termination—including ownership, licences already relied upon, disclaimers, limits of liability, and dispute terms—will survive.

11. Beta availability and disclaimers

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis during beta testing. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not promise uninterrupted access, error-free operation, permanent storage, or the accuracy or availability of third-party data, deals, recommendations, ratings, or links.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded, including applicable consumer-protection rights.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Gaming Inbox and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, opportunities, goodwill, or data, arising from the Service. For any claim that may lawfully be limited, total liability will not exceed the greater of CAD $100 and the amount you paid to The Gaming Inbox during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

These limits do not apply to fraud, intentional misconduct, gross fault, bodily injury, or any liability that applicable law does not allow us to limit. Québec consumer-protection rules, where applicable, take priority over inconsistent terms.

13. Responsibility for misuse

You are responsible for losses directly caused by your unlawful User Content, intentional misuse of the Service, or material breach of these Terms. We will give you prompt notice of a third-party claim and reasonable control over its defence where appropriate. This section does not require a consumer to indemnify us for our own fault or for obligations that cannot lawfully be transferred.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service, law, or business model changes. Material changes will be presented through the Service or sent to the account email before they take effect where required. The updated date will appear above. If a change requires new consent, we will ask for it.

15. Governing law, language, and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of Québec and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without taking away any mandatory protections available where you live. Disputes may be brought before courts with lawful jurisdiction in Québec, subject to consumer rights that permit another forum.

A French version is available using the Français control and is at least equally prominent. Québec users must be provided the French version before expressly choosing to contract in English. If you identify a difference between versions, contact us so it can be corrected.
